After reduced travel in 2020 due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, people are starting
to hit the road again — leading to more
accidents and more insurance claims.
The Federal Highway Administration shows
that vehicle miles traveled in the first half
of 2021 increased by 173.1 billion miles or
about 13% over the same period in 2020.
Traffic fatalities in the first half of 2021 were
up 18% over 2020. Additionally, there was
an increase in speeding over pre-pandemic
times. More recklessness and more
accidents equal more insurance claims.
