After 13 Years Gilbert AZ Goes Back to Leading Green Arrows

The Town Council voted 6-1 in March to switch to lagging left-turn arrows, citing their personal preference and an unofficial online survey that found a majority of participants favored the lagging lefts that were being studied on Guadalupe and McQueen roads.

For Gilbert officials, they say they’ve done the research and both leading and lagging seem to be just as safe.
But they did notice that crashes have dropped significantly at a traffic light they recently changed. So, they’re moving ahead with the changes.

Starting the week of August 28, 2017 Gilbert’s Traffic Engineering Division will be transitioning all left turn arrows. These traffic signal changes will be implemented in six phases over the following four to six weeks, as indicated on the map below. Phase 1 includes all of the traffic signals south of Queen Creek Road.
