The Status of the January 28, 2020 City of Phoenix “Red Light Cameras” Meeting

The Phoenix Red Light Cameras are on Pause for now.

The City of Phoenix contract for the 12 Red Light Cameras expired on December 31, 2019, and currently (Feb 25, 2010) the cameras are not issuing citations.

Mayor Kate Gallego called a Work Study Session for Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020. A Work Study Session is a less formal, informational session for the City Council to review and discuss ideas and information that in the future could lead to the potential formation of new or revised policies and programs.

In the meeting minutes, you will read the city currently has a Request for Proposal Document RFP 19-111 for more cameras originally issued on September 20th, 2019 doubling the fixed cameras from 12 to 24. The RFP’s were due February 14, 2020

The result of the meeting as documented in the minutes:

“The discussion concluded with the agreement that the RFP will pause for 60 days with a discussion in the Public Safety and Justice Subcommittee and if the Subcommittee does not move forward, then the RFP will be canceled”

The text added to the RFP is as follows “Change all references to the SUBMITTAL DEADLINE and SOLICITATION DEADLINE of FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2020, to FRIDAY, APRIL 17, 2020, 2:00 P.M., LOCAL TIME”
