In 2014, there were 726 cyclists killed and an additional 50,000 injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes. Cyclists’ deaths accounted for 2 percent of all motor vehicle traffic fatalities and made up 2 percent of the people injured in traffic crashes during the year. The number of cyclists killed in 2014 is 3 percent lower than the 749 cyclists killed in 2013. The decrease in 2014 is the first decrease after 3 years of increases in cyclist fatalities.
